New Horizons Tasmania programs cater for ALL abilities. Beginner or advanced, everyone is welcome and will be supported to achieve at their own level!

Please note that participants need to register as a New Horizons member before taking part in activities — BUT, interested potential participants are more than welcome to come along for a single session first as an onlooker, to see if they are keen to join. You just need to book in with the New Horizons office first 🙂

Hobart / Southern Club

AFL
Supported by AFL Tasmania and delivered in conjunction with the great people at the Glenorchy District Football Club, these all abilities sessions (in the winter season) are for all men and women of senior school-aged plus. Focused on fun engaging activities and in a safe social environment, this is a great program for anyone who loves their footy!

Basketball
An All Abilities program focused on skill development and teamwork. Participants are engaged in a variety of fun basketball activities and always get some competitive juices flowing with a social game to finish off.

Cricket
Run in conjunction with Cricket Tasmania, these all-abilities sessions (over the summer months) are for men and women of senior school age plus. Developing skills and workings towards potential state team representation.

Multi-sport program
Led by Stuart, this is a great social weekly catch up on Wednesdays and always focuses on a variety of activities. This is a great first-stop for those looking to meet some new people in a relaxed and fun setting.

Lawn Bowls
In conjunction with the North Hobart Community Bowls Club, our weekly lawn bowls program is a fun relaxed activity. In the warmer months it takes place outdoors and in the cooler/wet times, indoor carpet bowls is played.

Gymnastics/Gymability
Facilitated by the friendly staff at Gymsports in Kingston, this program is designed for all ages and abilities. This is a fun, inclusive, safe and challenging motor development program for people with disabilities.

Launceston

AFL    (winter)
Learn new skills, develop existing skills and increase your fitness. Join a fantastic group who respect all levels of expertise while embracing what it means to be a team. Take part in exhibition matches with local footy teams if you’re keen, and perhaps even try out for the Tasmanian AFL ID team, who play in the National AFL Inclusion Carnival annually.

Basketball
A relaxed group of all levels who share skills and enjoy the fun and fitness which comes with basketball. Elite players are introduced to the Ivor Burge competition.                                                                                                Currently in seasonal recess

Boccia
Similar to Boccé, Boccia debuted as a Paralympic sport in 1984. Competing in wheelchairs, athletes throw, kick or use a ramp device to propel leather balls as close as possible to a white ball which serves as the jack (target). Players compete in team and individual events on an equal level. (Currently full – waiting list available)

Craft
Get creative at our weekly craft sessions. Each project is worked on over several weeks, with participants producing and taking home impressive items such as mosaic photo frames, appliqued aprons, groovy customised cushions, dream-catchers… this group create seriously impressive stuff! (Currently full – waiting list available)

Fitness Class
A classic weekly gym session, where participants are supervised on all types of equipment, and lead in a workout. A great social catch-up as well as for keeping fit.  Bus transport from and back to NHT at Mowbray available.                                                                                                        Held at MY Gym, South Launceston

Futsal / Soccer
Futsal is the incredibly popular version of indoor soccer. Our group welcomes players of all ages and levels. For those keen on an elite path, there is the opportunity to train with the aim of making the Tasmanian Inclusion Rep team!                                                                            Sessions held at UTAS gym, Newnham.

Golf             (Spring, Summer)
Fantastic weekly all-abilities golf session held at the Launceston Golf Club, with Club Pro instrucor, Will White.

Gymnastics / Trampolining
Centred on Rebound Therapy, this program facilitates movement, balance and exercise. It also promotes relaxation — what a great combination! Held at PCYC and conducted by expert instructors. Transport available to and from NHT.

Indoor Social Bowls
A lovely social group, including players of all age-groups. Held at the New Horizons clubrooms in Mowbray, this is a great introduction to a new sport in a very supportive environment.                                                          CURRENTLY IN RECESS.

Song & Dance  
One of our favourite programs. Led by song & dance legend Melissa Wimmer, this group not only has a lot of fun and gets great exercise, but they also work through the year, learning pieces that are performed at a popular end-of-year concert.  Called ‘Song & Dance’, but participants just wishing to dance are well catered for too 🙂

Choir / Junior Song & Dance
Led by the warm and welcoming Maryanne, this group is made up of people of all ages, including school-aged kids who have fun and build confidence in a wonderfully supportive environment. Parents are welcome to stay and have afternoon tea, while participants learn new songs, dances and prepare acts for their end of year concert.

Swimming
New Horizons runs two different weekly swimming groups — and there really is something for everyone. For learner swimmers who lack confidence in the pool but would like to develop skills at their own pace, come along to and work with Maggie in the program pool. For other who like to lap-train, this is an ideal fitness group and perhaps a great stepping-stone to joining a club.                                                                                                                Held at the Launceston Aquatic Centre.

Smarty Arts 

New NDIS pilot program- calling for Expressions of Interest.                        SMARTY ARTS is a program starting in the north in July and available for NHT members who have an NDIS plan. The six session program has been developed and will be delivered by Sensorimotor Art Therapist, Sarah Poulton. These great arts based sessions will be focussed on not just fun and creativity, but also helping develop emotional intelligence and self-awareness.                                                                                                  Will be held ay NHT, Mowbray.

Taekwondo
Start as a beginner with this dynamic group of all ages and the sky is the limit! This internationally renowned Korean martial art is taught by Angela, from Flanagan and Chugg Taekwondo, with a focus on concentration and confidence.                                                                                                Held at Newstead College.

Tennis
All-abilities tennis where we learn new skills and love to have a hit. Held at the Australian Italian Club in Prospect.   Currently in seasonal recess

Model Making
Lead by model-making enthusiast Lynley, this is your chance to get building, with no prior experience needed – just an enthusiasm to learn! Held at the NHT Clubrooms

Painting                                                                                                          Taught by renowned Launceston artist, Fred Fullerton, come along and learn different styles of painting (or those who prefer to freestyle are welcome too!)
