Dr Stephen Tanner is a former journalist, political adviser and academic. He began his career at The Examiner Newspaper in Launceston before becoming a researcher and then media adviser to the then Premier of Tasmania, Robin Gray. After a stint as a federal political adviser, Stephen became an academic, teaching politics in Tasmania and journalism in Qld, WA and NSW. Before his retirement, Stephen was Professor of Journalism at Wollongong University in NSW. He has lived experience of disability, with his sister being a foundation member of NHT. His mother played a key role in establishment of NHT and his wife has an acquired disability. He has experience in governance and successfully applying for research grants, which has proven to be an invaluable resource to NHT in applying for grants.
