Ruth Symons

Admin Team Leader

Ruth was born and raised in a family of six children at the bottom of Mowbray Hill so she’s right at home here at the NHT office, back in her old neighbourhood of Mowbray.

Ruth joined NHT in 2004 when their youngest daughter joined the Friday afternoon activity group with NHT founder, Robyn Hanson. Ruth says this changed and enriched her daughter’s life – and theirs – forever. She has been a Board member and Volunteer since 2005 and prior to that, worked in Catholic school administration for 18-years.

Ruth says that whilst she has seen many changes over the 20-years she has been involved with NHT, the heart of the organisation has remained the same. Family is at the centre of Ruth’s life and she considers NHT her second family. Ruth and her husband, Chris, have five children and eight grandchildren!

When she’s not at work making sure NHT runs so smoothly, Ruth loves playing tennis, reading and enjoys doing all things craft-related – including making cards, sewing and doing embroidery.

It is hard to imagine how the organisation would even operate without Ruth! She truly is invaluable to the running of NHT and knows how to do pretty much everything in the office – from setting up complicated computer programs and fixing the photocopier to baking delicious treats for the office staff and providing hilarious office banter!
